Portrait mode for any photo
Phones blur the background in portrait mode to make the subject stand out. This tool does the same for photos taken without it, screenshots or old pictures. The AI finds the subject, the rest of the photo is blurred, and the sharp subject is placed back on top.
The blur strength follows the photo's size, so it looks similar on a small phone photo and a large camera picture. The result keeps the full resolution and is saved as JPG. Busy backgrounds become soft and distraction-free; faces, products and pets stay crisp.
It's also a quick way to hide a messy room, other people or a whiteboard in the background before sharing a photo. Up to five photos at a time.
On your device
The AI model runs in your browser (downloaded once, about 88 MB, then kept by the browser). Your photos are never uploaded and there's no watermark.
How this works
An open-source segmentation model (ormbg, Apache-2.0) runs at 1024 × 1024 pixels on your graphics card (WebGPU) or processor and returns how likely each pixel is to be the subject. The original photo is redrawn with a Gaussian blur whose radius is the long side divided by 120 pixels, then the subject, cut out with that map at full resolution, is drawn sharp on top and saved as JPG.
Frequently asked
Is my photo uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser on this device.
Can I change how strong the blur is?
Not yet; the strength follows the photo's size so it looks natural.
Why are some edges a bit soft?
Around fine hair the AI isn't sure what is subject and what is background, so the transition is gradual.
Does it reduce quality?
The subject keeps its full resolution; the JPG is saved at high quality (92).
