Take your Kindle books to other readers
AZW3 (also called KF8) is the Kindle format that keeps a book's fonts and layout. Choose a DRM-free AZW3 file and get an EPUB with the same chapters, styles, embedded fonts, pictures, table of contents and cover, ready for Kobo, Apple Books, Google Play Books or Thorium.
What converts best
Books without DRM: titles from Project Gutenberg, Standard Ebooks, Humble Bundle, independent authors and your own documents converted for Kindle. Store purchases with copy protection are encrypted and can't be read by any converter. Text, headings, pictures, tables and footnotes come through; fixed-layout books keep their pages as pictures.
Private
The book is read and converted by your browser: it is never uploaded, and nothing is stored.
How this works
Your browser opens the AZW3 file with foliate-js, an open-source e-book library, rebuilds each chapter from the Kindle file’s pieces, collects its pictures, fonts and stylesheets, and writes a standard EPUB 3 with a table of contents. Nothing leaves your device.
Frequently asked
Is my book uploaded?
The book is read and converted by your browser: it is never uploaded, and nothing is stored.
Does it work with books I bought on Amazon?
Only if they have no DRM. Most store purchases are encrypted so that only Kindle apps can open them, and they can't be converted; the page tells you when that's the case.
Will Send to Kindle accept the EPUB?
Yes. Amazon's Send to Kindle takes EPUB directly (it converts it for the Kindle itself).
Is it free?
Yes, with no account and no limit: it runs on your device.
