Split PDF

Break a PDF into several files: every page on its own, the ranges you type (such as 1-3, 4-10) or a new file every few pages. It runs in your browser, so the document never leaves your device.

Your PDF is split on this device and never uploaded.

Three ways to split

  • Every page makes one PDF per page, handy for sending a single page of a long scan.
  • Page ranges makes one PDF per range you type. 1-3, 4-10, 11- gives three files: pages 1 to 3, 4 to 10, and 11 to the end. A range written backwards, such as 5-1, also reverses the pages.
  • Every N pages cuts the document into equal parts, for example every 2 pages for double-sided forms.

When there is more than one result you can download each file or all of them in a single ZIP. File names carry the page numbers (report-p04-06.pdf), padded so they sort in the right order.

Private by design

Splitting happens in your browser. The PDF is read from your disk, the parts are built on your device and saved back to it; nothing is uploaded, so there is no account and no daily limit.

How this works

The document is opened in a Web Worker with the open-source pdf-lib library. For each group of pages a new PDF is created and the pages are copied into it with their fonts and images, so text stays selectable and nothing is re-compressed. Page lists are checked before any work: every number must exist in the document. Several parts are packed into a ZIP without further compression, since PDF content is already compressed.

Frequently asked

How do I write page ranges?

Use commas between parts and a hyphen for ranges: 1-3, 5, 8- means pages 1 to 3, page 5, and page 8 to the end.

Is the PDF uploaded?

No. The split runs in your browser and the parts are saved straight to your device.

Does splitting reduce quality?

No. Pages are copied as they are; nothing is converted to images.

How do I keep only some pages?

Use Extract pages to get one PDF with just the pages you list, or Delete pages to drop the ones you don't want.
