From selfie to passport photo
Choose a photo of yourself looking straight at the camera and pick the size: US passport and visa (2 × 2 in), EU, UK and Schengen visa (35 × 45 mm) or Canada (50 × 70 mm). The background is replaced with plain white, your head is scaled to the size the rules ask for and centred, and you get a ready-to-print 300 dpi photo.
You also get a 4 × 6 in (10 × 15 cm) sheet with several copies, the standard print size at pharmacies and photo kiosks, so printing costs cents. Cut along the thin grey lines.
Take a good photo first
Stand about a metre from a plain wall, face the camera with a neutral expression and both eyes open, no hat, and light coming from the front so there are no shadows on your face. Glasses are not allowed in US passport photos. The tool fixes the background, size and framing; it can't fix shadows, blur or expression.
Private by design
The AI that finds your face and separates you from the background runs in your browser. Your photo isn't uploaded anywhere. The first time, the models (about 90 MB) are downloaded and kept by your browser.
Rules change and some offices only accept photos taken by them: check your government's current rules before you submit.
How this works
A small face-detection model (UltraFace, MIT licence) finds your face; its lower edge is your chin. A background-removal model (ormbg, Apache-2.0) separates you from the background, and the top of your hair is the first row above your face that belongs to you. The photo is then cropped so that the distance from the top of your head to your chin matches the official proportion: 32–36 mm of a 45 mm photo for ICAO 9303 (EU, UK), 1–1⅜ in of a 2 in photo for the US.
Frequently asked
Is my photo uploaded?
No. Both AI models run in your browser on this device; the photo never leaves it.
Will it be accepted?
The size, head proportion and plain background follow the official rules. Acceptance also depends on light, expression and focus, which come from your original photo, and some offices only take their own photos.
How do I print it?
Print the 4 × 6 in sheet as a normal photo print at a pharmacy, supermarket kiosk or online lab, then cut out the copies along the grey lines.
Can I use a blue or grey background?
Yes. Choose the colour under Background colour; most passports ask for white or off-white.
Is it free?
Yes, with no watermark: the work happens on your device.
