Seconds and minutes
The second is the SI base unit of time, defined by 9,192,631,770 periods of the caesium-133 hyperfine transition. Every other time unit here is a multiple of the second.
A minute is exactly 60 seconds. Cooking times, phone plans, meetings and workouts are counted in minutes.
Worked example
Convert 600 s: 600 × 0.01666666667 = 10, so 600 seconds is 10 minutes. Likewise 100 s = 1.666666667 min.
Estimating in your head
Divide by 60 for a quick figure; it is off by about 0%. For 600 s that gives 10 min, against 10 exactly.
Going the other way
To convert minutes to seconds, divide by 0.01666666667 (or multiply by 60).
How this works
min = s × 0.01666666667
1 s = 1 s and 1 min = 60 s, both by definition, so the factor is their ratio: 0.01666666667 (rounded here; the page uses the full value). Results drop binary floating-point noise beyond 15 significant digits and display at the precision you choose (6 significant figures by default). Copy result copies the full value.
Frequently asked
How many minutes are in a second?
1 second = 0.01666666667 minutes. The factor is exact by definition but has endless decimals, so it is shown rounded; the page uses the full value.
How do I convert seconds to minutes?
Multiply by 0.01666666667. For example, 100 s × 0.01666666667 = 1.666666667 min.
What is 1,000 s in minutes?
1,000 s = 16.66666667 min. The table next to the converter lists more common values.
Is the result rounded?
Only on screen. The page computes with the exact definitions and removes floating-point noise past 15 significant digits; pick 3 to 12 significant figures, or use Copy result for the full value.
