Feet and centimeters
The international foot is exactly 0.3048 meters, a third of a yard, and is divided into 12 inches. Height in the US and UK, aircraft altitude worldwide, and room and property sizes in the US are given in feet.
The centimeter is one hundredth of a meter (10 mm). Body height, clothing measurements, screen and paper sizes are commonly given in centimeters outside the US.
Worked example
Convert 6 ft: 6 × 30.48 = 182.88, so 6 feet is 182.88 centimeters. Likewise 2 ft = 60.96 cm.
Estimating in your head
Multiply by 30 for a quick figure; it is off by about 1.6%. For 6 ft that gives 180 cm, against 182.88 exactly.
Going the other way
To convert centimeters to feet, divide by 30.48 (or multiply by 0.0328083989501). The swap button between the boxes opens that page.
How this works
cm = ft × 30.48
1 ft = 0.3048 m and 1 cm = 0.01 m, both by definition, so the factor is their ratio: 30.48 exactly. Results drop binary floating-point noise beyond 15 significant digits and display at the precision you choose (6 significant figures by default). Copy result copies the full value.
Frequently asked
How many centimeters are in a foot?
1 foot = 30.48 centimeters, exactly. The value follows from the unit definitions, so it never changes.
How do I convert feet to centimeters?
Multiply by 30.48. For example, 2 ft × 30.48 = 60.96 cm.
What is 10 ft in centimeters?
10 ft = 304.8 cm. The table next to the converter lists more common values.
Is the result rounded?
Only on screen. The page computes with the exact definitions and removes floating-point noise past 15 significant digits; pick 3 to 12 significant figures, or use Copy result for the full value.
