Centimeters to Feet

Centimeters and feet

The centimeter is one hundredth of a meter (10 mm). Body height, clothing measurements, screen and paper sizes are commonly given in centimeters outside the US.

The international foot is exactly 0.3048 meters, a third of a yard, and is divided into 12 inches. Height in the US and UK, aircraft altitude worldwide, and room and property sizes in the US are given in feet.

Worked example

Convert 175 cm: 175 × 0.03280839895 = 5.741469816, so 175 centimeters is 5.741469816 feet. Likewise 100 cm = 3.280839895 ft.

Estimating in your head

Divide by 30 for a quick figure; it is off by about 1.6%. For 175 cm that gives 5.83 ft, against 5.74147 exactly.

ft = cm × 0.03280839895

1 cm = 0.01 m and 1 ft = 0.3048 m, both by definition, so the factor is their ratio: 0.03280839895 (rounded here; the page uses the full value). Results drop binary floating-point noise beyond 15 significant digits and display at the precision you choose (6 significant figures by default). Copy result copies the full value.
