Hectares to Acres

Hectares and acres

The hectare is a square 100 m on each side: exactly 10,000 square meters. Farmland, forests and large building plots are measured in hectares outside the US and UK.

The international acre is exactly 4,046.8564224 square meters, or 43,560 square feet (one chain by one furlong). Land and property lots in the US, UK, Canada and Australia are sold by the acre.

Worked example

Convert 10 ha: 10 × 2.471053815 = 24.71053815, so 10 hectares is 24.71053815 acres. Likewise 50 ha = 123.5526907 ac.

Estimating in your head

Multiply by 2.5 for a quick figure; it is off by about 1.2%. For 10 ha that gives 25 ac, against 24.7105 exactly.

Going the other way

To convert acres to hectares, divide by 2.471053815 (or multiply by 0.40468564224). The swap button between the boxes opens that page.

ac = ha × 2.471053815

1 ha = 10,000 m² and 1 ac = 4,046.8564224 m², both by definition, so the factor is their ratio: 2.471053815 (rounded here; the page uses the full value). Results drop binary floating-point noise beyond 15 significant digits and display at the precision you choose (6 significant figures by default). Copy result copies the full value.
