Metric tons and US tons
The metric ton (tonne, t) is 1,000 kilograms. Shipping, freight, crop yields and CO₂ emissions are reported in metric tons.
The US (short) ton is exactly 2,000 pounds, or 907.18474 kilograms. Vehicle weights, truck loads, air-conditioning capacity history and US industrial quantities use short tons.
Worked example
Convert 10 t: 10 × 1.102311311 = 11.02311311, so 10 metric tons is 11.02311311 US tons. Likewise 50 t = 55.11556555 ton.
