Grams and ounces
The gram is one thousandth of a kilogram. Recipes, nutrition labels, postage and small parcels use grams.
The avoirdupois ounce is one sixteenth of a pound: exactly 28.349523125 grams. US recipes, food packaging, postage and shipping weights use ounces. It is not the fluid ounce, which measures volume.
Worked example
Convert 100 g: 100 × 0.03527396195 = 3.527396195, so 100 grams is 3.527396195 ounces. Likewise 200 g = 7.05479239 oz.
Estimating in your head
Divide by 28 for a quick figure; it is off by about 1.2%. For 100 g that gives 3.57 oz, against 3.5274 exactly.
Going the other way
To convert ounces to grams, divide by 0.03527396195 (or multiply by 28.349523125). The swap button between the boxes opens that page.
How this works
oz = g × 0.03527396195
1 g = 0.001 kg and 1 oz = 0.028349523125 kg, both by definition, so the factor is their ratio: 0.03527396195 (rounded here; the page uses the full value). Results drop binary floating-point noise beyond 15 significant digits and display at the precision you choose (6 significant figures by default). Copy result copies the full value.
Frequently asked
How many ounces are in a gram?
1 gram = 0.03527396195 ounces. The factor is exact by definition but has endless decimals, so it is shown rounded; the page uses the full value.
How do I convert grams to ounces?
Multiply by 0.03527396195. For example, 200 g × 0.03527396195 = 7.05479239 oz.
What is 1,000 g in ounces?
1,000 g = 35.27396195 oz. The table next to the converter lists more common values.
Is the result rounded?
Only on screen. The page computes with the exact definitions and removes floating-point noise past 15 significant digits; pick 3 to 12 significant figures, or use Copy result for the full value.
