Filling in the time card
Type one shift per line: an optional label, the start time, the end time and the unpaid break in minutes, for example Mon 09:00 17:30 30. Use 24-hour times; a shift that ends earlier than it starts is treated as running past midnight. Ranges like 08:00-12:00 work too, so split shifts can go on separate lines.
Worked example
Five days of 9:00 to 17:30 with a 30-minute lunch (8 hours each) plus a Saturday morning from 9:00 to 13:00 is 44 hours. At $20 an hour, the first 40 hours pay $800 and the 4 overtime hours pay $20 × 1.5 × 4 = $120, for $920 gross.
Overtime rules
Under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act, non-exempt employees must be paid at least one and a half times their regular rate for hours over 40 in a workweek. A few states add daily overtime (California after 8 hours in a day) or double time. Salaried exempt employees are not covered. Holidays and weekends do not trigger overtime by themselves under federal law.
Pay is shown before taxes. To convert an hourly rate to a salary, use the salary calculator.
How this works
The page reads each line, takes the last two times and an optional number of break minutes, and adds the worked minutes, adding 24 hours to shifts that end before they start. Hours up to the weekly threshold are regular; the rest are overtime. Gross pay is regular hours times the rate plus overtime hours times the rate times the multiplier. Lines that cannot be read are reported.
