Cubic inches and cubic centimeters
The cubic inch is a cube 1 inch on each side: exactly 16.387064 cubic centimeters. Classic American engine displacement (a 350 cubic-inch V8) and some packaging specs use cubic inches.
The cubic centimeter (cc, cm³) is a cube 1 cm on each side, exactly one milliliter. Engine and motorcycle displacement and medical syringes are often labeled in cc.
Worked example
Convert 350 in³: 350 × 16.387064 = 5,735.4724, so 350 cubic inches is 5,735.4724 cubic centimeters. Likewise 100 in³ = 1,638.7064 cm³.
Estimating in your head
Multiply by 16 for a quick figure; it is off by about 2.4%. For 350 in³ that gives 5,600 cm³, against 5,735.47 exactly.
Going the other way
To convert cubic centimeters to cubic inches, divide by 16.387064 (or multiply by 0.0610237440947). The swap button between the boxes opens that page.
How this works
cm³ = in³ × 16.387064
1 in³ = 0.000016387064 m³ and 1 cm³ = 0.000001 m³, both by definition, so the factor is their ratio: 16.387064 exactly. Results drop binary floating-point noise beyond 15 significant digits and display at the precision you choose (6 significant figures by default). Copy result copies the full value.
Frequently asked
How many cubic centimeters are in a cubic inch?
1 cubic inch = 16.387064 cubic centimeters, exactly. The value follows from the unit definitions, so it never changes.
How do I convert cubic inches to cubic centimeters?
Multiply by 16.387064. For example, 100 in³ × 16.387064 = 1,638.7064 cm³.
What is 1,000 in³ in cubic centimeters?
1,000 in³ = 16,387.064 cm³. The table next to the converter lists more common values.
Is the result rounded?
Only on screen. The page computes with the exact definitions and removes floating-point noise past 15 significant digits; pick 3 to 12 significant figures, or use Copy result for the full value.
