Pressure is force per area. The SI unit, the pascal, is tiny (one newton per square meter), so everyday pressures use multiples: tire gauges read in psi or bar, weather maps in hectopascals or millibars (the same thing), blood pressure in millimeters of mercury and scientific work in kilopascals. Standard atmosphere, 101,325 Pa, ties them together.
