Energy shows up under many names. Nutrition labels count kilocalories (shown as "Calories") or kilojoules, electricity bills count kilowatt-hours, heaters and air conditioners are rated in BTU, and physicists use joules and electronvolts. All of them are fixed multiples of the joule, the SI unit: the thermochemical calorie is exactly 4.184 J and a kilowatt-hour is exactly 3.6 million joules.
