Counting days between dates
The number of days between two dates is the end date minus the start date. From January 1 to December 25, 2026 there are 358 days: the start day is counted, the end day is not, which is how you count "days until" an event. If you want both days counted, as for a festival running from the first date through the last, tick include the end date and you get 359.
Other ways to express it
- Calendar: 11 months and 24 days. Months have different lengths, so this is counted month by month from the start date.
- Weeks: 51 weeks and 1 day.
- Weekdays: 256 weekdays (Monday to Friday) in the period, before holidays.
- Hours: 8,592.
Common questions
Counting backwards works too: if the end date is earlier, the result is negative. To find a date a set number of days away instead, use the add-to-date calculator. For working days with holidays, use the business days calculator and subtract the holidays that fall on weekdays.
How this works
The page converts both dates to calendar days and subtracts them, adding one if you include the end date. The calendar breakdown counts whole months from the start date, then the remaining days. Weekdays count every Monday to Friday from the start date up to, but not including, the end. Everything uses calendar days, so daylight-saving changes cannot shift the count.
